President and Founder
Ted Winick’s career path has taken him through a variety of industries, including the restaurant business, dry cleaning, real estate, furniture manufacturing and fundraising and development. Though this storied career has taught him that there is no problem he can’t solve, he considers his biggest learning experience to be the 25 years he spent parenting his three wonderful children.
Rather than keep the skills he developed as a parent to himself, Ted decided to put them to good use teaching other children. Ted has been teaching chess for nearly two decades in schools around Toronto. He co-founded the Chess Institute of Canada in 2005, after discovering that teaching chess is one of the best ways to teach children a plethora of life skills.
Ted is very active in his community. Beyond the numerous chess events that he spearheads, Ted is instrumental in helping his wife, Heidi, with her successful Spirit of Math Central Toronto School. Ted also finds time to play the trombone in a local community band.
